If your dentist has recently taken x-rays which show all of the teeth in question, please bring them with you to your appointment or verify that they have been sent and received. A panoramic view of your jaws is part of a complete oral and maxillofacial surgery examination.

It is always important to preserve or rebuild any lost bone and soft tissues after teeth have been extracted or lost as a consequence of periodontal disease. Healthy bone and soft tissues are important to maintain the health of your mouth. Healthy bone and soft tissues are also needed so that replacement teeth can be placed to restore your missing ones in the future. In most instances it is best to perform these procedures at the time the extraction is performed. In some instances it is also possible to place implants to replace the extracted tooth or teeth at the same time of their removal.


It is recommended that patients not return to work on the day of the extraction, particularly since most of these procedures are performed with IV anesthesia. We will provide you with post-operative instructions, extra gauze, and a prescription for pain medication or antibiotics (if indicated) after your treatment is complete. You can expect mild to moderate discomfort for a few days following the extraction. There may be some swelling, stretching of your lip, or bruising. In general, you should start to feel better after 2-3 days. If your medical history is complex and you are taking a number of prescribed medications, we may need to discuss your dental treatment with your physician before we can treat you. Please bring a list of all medications you are currently taking with you to your first appointment.
