Mission Statement

The American College of Surgeons is dedicated to improving the care of the surgical patient and to safeguarding standards of care in an optimal and ethical practice environment.

What is the American College of Surgeons?

The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational association of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to improve the quality of care for the surgical patient by setting high standards for surgical education and practice.

Membership

Members of the American College of Surgeons are referred to as "Fellows." The letters FACS (Fellow, American College of Surgeons) after a surgeon's name mean that the surgeon's education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation, and have been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by the College.

The American College of Surgeons admits to its Fellowship only those surgeons whose professional activity is devoted to surgical practice and who agree without compromise to practice by the professional and ethical standards of the College.

The standards of practice established and demanded by the American College of Surgeons are contained in the Fellowship Pledge and the Statements on Principles. All Fellows of the College and applicants for Fellowship are expected to adhere to these standards.

Surgeons request and voluntarily submit applications for Fellowship. In so doing, they are inviting an evaluation of their practice by their peers.

In evaluating the eligibility of applicants for Fellowship, the College investigates each applicant's entire surgical practice. Applicants for Fellowship are required to provide to the appointed committees of the College all information deemed necessary for the investigation and evaluation of their surgical practice.

Diplomate of the Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

We are proud to announce that Dr. Stone recently recertified with The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS).  Dr. Stone was required to pass a series of examinations in oral surgery, anesthesia, medicine, trauma, critical care, dental implant reconstruction and orthognathic surgery.  He has been board certified since 2002 and his recertification is now effective until December 2022.   Not all oral surgeons choose to under go this rigorous process.  We are proud to work for an oral surgeon who puts patient safety first.

The objectives of the ABOMS are to elevate the standards of oral and maxillofacial surgery and to aid Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in their efforts to provide optimum health care in the United States.  In order to fulfill these objectives, the Board establishes criteria for competence and knowledge that determine a sufficient and acceptable performance for safe practice of the specialty and examines qualified candidates.

At Colorado Surgical Arts, we pride ourselves in providing excellence in healthcare!  This is just one of many steps that we take to make sure that you have a safe and comfortable experience.

American Society of Implant & Reconstructive Dentistry

Dr. Thomas L. Stone MD, DDS, FACS is a Fellow of the American Society of Implant & Reconstructive Dentistry (ASIRD). ASIRD is committed to improving the quality of care for dental implant patients by elevating the standards of surgical and restorative dental education and practice. Not every dentist routinely restores and maintains dental implants and not all placers of dental implants are surgeons. By using an ASIRD team, rest assured that your dentist routinely restores and maintains dental implants and only a trained surgeon will place your implant.
